Construction: Non-continuous bobbin lace

Description: this large fragment that once formed a deep flounce of Milanese, cream linen lace was probably made between the end of the 1600s and the early 1700s.

During this time the Fond Chant ground had been adopted for use in the Milanese laces, previous to this date the Valenciennes diamond mesh ground was widely used.

It has been constructed of bobbin made tape, forming the shape of flowers and leaves the spaces have then been filled with various bobbin made fillings.
