Date: late 18C - early 19C
Place:Alencon, Normandy, France

Description: 11cm x 12cm this unique sample has been made with the finest cream linen thread. Probably made between 1775 - 1825.

The needle technique is invisible to the naked eye. Point De Gaz Mesh has been used for the ground. The pattern has been formed from a core of thread that has been buttonholed over, and the spaces filled with various stitches.

This type of very fine Alencon lace is known to have been used for sleeve ruffles.

Similar Alencon lace is featured in The Illustrated Dictionary of Lace, by Judyth L. Gwynne.
